Feast of Saint Agatha of Sicily:

pic

Today the Church celebrates the feast of St. Agatha of Sicily, a young martyr who lived in the early third century and was martyred during the reign of Emperor Decius around A.D. 251. She was born into a powerful and wealthy family in Sicily and at a young age consecrated her life and virginity to Lord Jesus Christ. Her beauty attracted many suitors including a high ranking official called Quinctianus who was known to persecute Christians. When she rejected his proposal, she was arrested and mercilessly tortured to give up her faith. On his orders, her breasts were cut off. Despite all the attempts, she stood firm in her faith and eventually attained martyrdom. She is the patron saint of Catania, Molise, Malta, San Marino, and Zamarramala, a municipality of the Province of Segovia in Spain and her intercession is invoked against breast cancer, eruption of volcanoes, earthquakes, lightning and fires. Dr. Shilpa Tomy Simon, is now a doctor in Bangalore. Whilst she was studying in her third year of MBBS, she attended the Abhishekagni Bible Convention in Bangalore led by Rev. Fr. Xavier Khan Vattayil and prayed to Jesus to help her in passing her exams. She made it a practice to pray the prayers in the book 'The Power of the Name of Jesus' written by Rev. Fr. Xavier Khan Vattayil. The book is a powerful instrument of the Holy Spirit in glorifying the power of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. Thousands have testified to having received the intercession of Jesus in their needs whilst praying using the book. She too miraculously passed all her exams by praying in the Power of Name of Jesus. Listen in to this testimony. Thank You Jesus! Praise you Lord!

Catechism article

The ‘Our Father’ prayer is also called the ‘Lord’s prayer’ because it was given to the disciples in response to their request “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples” Luke 11:1. The Lord’s prayer is regarded as the summary of the entire Gospel and the most perfect of prayers. As Saint Thomas Aquinas rightly summarised in his words “The Lord’s prayer is the most perfect of prayers. In it we ask, not only for the things we can rightly desire, but also in the sequence that they should be desired. This prayer not only teaches us to ask for things, but also in what order we should desire them.”. Read more here....

Praying the Penitential Psalms:

pic “Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more” Romans 5:20.
But to do its work, grace must uncover sin so as to convert our hearts and restore us in holiness. Like a physician who probes the wound before treating it, God, by His Word and by His Spirit, casts a living light on sin.
Praying the 7 penitential Psalms is a powerful yet pious way of inviting God’s mercy and grace back into our lives. Reciting these Psalms helps us in reflecting our actions and calling to mind the times we failed to be pleasing to God. It leads us to acknowledge our sins with a sorrowful heart and ask forgiveness from our loving Father. Read more here...
